Boy, what a question to ask right around Christmas! You would be surprised by how many people question who he is. Some say he is a myth, some say he is a prophet and some say he was only a just man. But let’s look at history.
What better place to go for history than the Bible? We Christians respect the Old Testament and rightly so. It was the bedrock of Jesus’s faith. So let’s look at just a couple of examples that prove Jesus is who he says he is.
Let’s go back seven hundred years before the birth of Christ and read Isaiah 7:14. Ahaz, the king of Judah, was told the savior would be born of a virgin. Now fast forward through those seven hundred long years to Luke 1:26-35 in the New Testament. The angel Gabriel tells Mary that by the power of the Holy Spirit, she will bear a son—even though she is a virgin—and call him Jesus. Look at the timeline. It is better than 700 years between these two events. You may call that a coincidence, but it really is the fulfillment of a prophecy.
Again in the Old Testament, look at Isaiah 40:3-4. Here we learn one will come in the desert to prepare the way for the Lord. Again, this was foretold 700 years before Christ was born! Again, fast forward those 700 years to the Gospel of Luke, 3:2-5. St. John the Baptist fulfills the prophecy and after Christ is baptized, the heavens open up and God says, “This is my Son in whom I am well pleased.”
Need more proof? The Bible is filled with many more prophecies. For example: the savior would be sold for thirty pieces of silver, he would be crucified with sinners, he would ascend into heaven…and the list goes on.
Is he the real deal? You betcha he is! Celebrate His coming Christmas Day.
